Studio City is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, located on the north slope of the Santa Monica Mountains. It was part of the Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, a Mexican land grant, and named after the area’s studio lot, opened by Mack Sennett in 1927. That studio is now known as CBS Studio Center. Currently residents are families and young professionals that tend to be liberal. Even with a population of 41,800, Studio City has a thriving local community with a small-town feel.
The public schools in Studio City are above average and the crime rate is below average. The quiet, tree-lined residential streets include many homes featured in various television shows. The lifestyle here is mellow, quiet, and surprisingly hip and the cultural scene is based around, shopping, food, drink, and well known throughout LA as being “sushi alley” as it is home to perhaps the largest concentration of sushi restaurants in the Los Angeles area. Ventura Boulevard is the main thoroughfare through Studio City. The most pedestrian-friendly stretch is located between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue. One could take the whole day exploring the countless boutiques and enjoying a fabulous lunch at one of the neighborhood’s locally owned eateries. The neighborhood also offers the weekly Farmers Market, one of the premier markets in Los Angeles, the Winter Family Festival, and the Luminaria Festival. Locals hit Wilacre Park for woodsy hiking trails with panoramic Valley views.
The housing market boasts luxurious hillside houses and mid-century architectural gems. Studio City is a hub of mid-century architecture, and its many post-WWII buildings have been beautifully kept up. There is a is a mix of upscale estates in the Santa Monica Mountains, expansive homes in the more residential areas, and highly regarded mid-century properties. As a community that was born out of the entertainment industry, Studio City is regarded as the “Jewel of the Valley,” attracting actors, musicians, and writers and serving as a hub of the San Fernando Valley and a gateway to the Westside and Hollywood.
