Los Feliz is a relaxed hillside enclave that draws both established and up-and-coming creative types. Whether it’s the Hills, Estate, Knolls or Village of Los Feliz, this neighborhood is proudly inhabited by a diverse cultures, ages and incomes with a growing population of 45,996. The neighborhood borders the sprawling, picturesque greenery from nearby hills of Griffith Park, one of the largest municipal parks with urban wilderness areas in the United States. With over 4,210 acres of both natural chapparal-covered terrain and landscaped parkland and picnic areas, the iconic park transitions seamlessly into a jam-packed urban epicenter. With Hollywood to the west, Silver Lake to the south and Atwater village to the east, the hillside neighborhood is home to some of the most outstanding architecture in L.A. County and birthplace to motion picture studios as well as the Greek Theater. Completed in 1929, this 6,000-seat open air theater is beloved by Angelinos and music lovers everywhere to watch contemporary and classical music acts that consistently perform here for an eclectic line-up of shows.
For those who would like to get active, Griffith offers serene and rugged hikes as well as the 181step hike up the Berendo Stairs, at Cromwell, north of Los Feliz Boulevard. One minute, you could be enjoying a solo hike and the next, dining al fresco at one of the many bustling sidewalk eateries. The stretches along Hillhurst and Vermont avenues make up what is known as Los Feliz Village, one of the most walkable commercial districts in the city. There are plenty of old-school watering holes, hip boutiques and cafes, restaurants (with a wide array of cuisines), plus a the historic, Vista Theatre, a 1923 single-screen movie palace. Aside from the shops, bars, and restaurants, Los Feliz is also home to some world-famous architecture, including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House and Hollyhock House, located in the Barnsdall Art Park. Self-guided tours are available for the public. Barnsdall is a destination on its own, as it offers stunning city and sunset views, plus a popular summer wine-tasting series that is BYOP (picnic).
